At 3.2 Mt, India's 14 April - 20 April steam coal imports dip 24% week-on-week

From April 14 to April 20, Indonesia emerged as the dominant contributor of, accounting for a significant portion of India's steam coal imports at 21,51,230 metric tons. This represents approximately 66.84% of the total coal imports during the specified timeframe.

Following Indonesia, Australia stood as the second-largest steam coal supplier to India, contributing 1,62,397 metric tons, making up about 5.04% of the total imports. Australia's consistent supply of high-quality coal has historically made it a favoured choice for India's energy needs.

Meanwhile, China, another significant player, provided 52,875 metric tons, constituting approximately 1.64% of the total imports.

Moreover, the inclusion of countries like Colombia, the Philippines, Russia, South Africa, and the USA in India's coal import mix underscores the diverse global sourcing strategy employed by the nation to ensure a steady supply of coal, vital for its economic growth and energy security.
